Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, primarily known in most countries outside of North America as “soccer.” The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net. Players, except for the goalkeepers, are not allowed to use their hands or arms to manipulate the ball while on the field. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a goal at each end.

Football matches are typically divided into two halves of 45 minutes each, with a 15-minute halftime break. The team with the most goals at the end of the match wins, and if the score is tied, various competitions may use different methods to determine a winner, such as extra time or penalty shootouts.

Football is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) at the international level, which oversees major competitions such as the FIFA World Cup. The sport is recognized for its significant cultural impact and global following, making it one of the most popular sports in the world.
